The 2025 Photography Competitions Are Now Open for Submissions!
FOTEA is proud to announce the launch of the 2025 edition of our annual photography competitions. This year, we invite photographers from across Uganda and East Africa to participate in three exciting opportunities to showcase their talent, tell powerful stories, and win incredible prizes.
East African Photography Award (EAPA)
Now in its 8th year, the East African Photography Award (EAPA) is open to photographers who are citizens of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
EAPA celebrates multi-image stories that explore any theme—personal, social, cultural, political, environmental, or otherwise. More than just beautiful photos, we're looking for strong, relevant visual storytelling.
Single Image Categories:
You can now also submit up to three single images in any of the following categories:
▪️Human - Stories of people, community, and human experience
▪️Planet - Our environment, landscapes, and natural world
▪️Imagine - Experimental, conceptual, or creative work (No AI-generated images allowed)
We encourage photographers to push creative boundaries while telling meaningful, authentic stories rooted in the East African experience.

🔸 Best Single Image Winner: Fujifilm X-T50 + XF16-50mm lens
All shortlisted photographers receive additional prizes and recognition

Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA)
This year's Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) has an Open Theme, which allows photographers complete creative freedom.
Whether you cover politics, daily life, culture, technology, sport, the environment—or something entirely unique—we want to see your most powerful photojournalism or documentary work.

Young Photographer Award (YPA)
Celebrating its 10th edition, the Young Photographer Award is open to Ugandan photographers aged 21-28 who are eager to grow their careers.
What You Need to Apply
▪️ A motivation letter about yourself and why you should be selected
▪️ A project idea you would develop during the mentorship
▪️ A portfolio of at least 20 JPEG images showing your range and skill
Shortlisted candidates will join the Emerging Photographer Mentorship Programme, where they'll receive guidance and develop a long-term project to be exhibited at the UPPA 2025 exhibition.
