There's area known as "Ozerki". It's a system of several ponds in the nothern part of the city. In summer, shores of these ponds are one of the favorite places for the rest. In winter, it's a good place too, as you can see. The tall building in the center is of 2002Â year.
The history of "Ozerki" area is known from XVIII century, at least.

It's the Linden pond. The name of this place is by the owner of the house next to the pond in the beginning of XX century. The small wooden house was built in 1917. The tall building was built in 2001. On the left side, famous Khrushchevki are situated. They are ofÂ 1960-1970 years of construction.

Engelsa evenue. There's a house of 1953Â year of construction. It's a good sample of Stalin neoclassicism style. In Soviet era houses of this kind were only for the narrow privileged slice of the society. Nowadays, it's expensive too.
Trams, like you can see at the picture, are one of the favorite public transport in Saint-Petersburg.

Moskovskaya square. The monument to Lenin and young men doing skateboarding. Dom Sovetov (House of Soviets) is behind Lenin. There's a version that Stalin wanted to move center of Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg) to the House of Soviets. By the way, Pulkovo meridian passes through it.

Pobedy square (The victory square). The rehearsal of taking the oath by students - future police officers. The architecure ensemble of the Victory square is one of the most important monuments of the great Patriotic war (WWII) in St. Petersburg.

The Park of cities the heroes (Pulkovo Park). The construction of the Park began in 1980 as a memorial to the great Patriotic war (the part of the Second World War, in which the Soviet Union took part). In the Central part of the Park is a temple complex consisting of 3 churches, chapels and ancillary buildings. The buildings in the picture: left - the Church of the Nativity (2003), second left is St. George's Church (1995), the church on the background of houses - Sergius Church (2000), the living buildings - the "Viva" residential complex (under construction, partially put into operation in 2015).

Pulkovo observatory was built in 1839 at one of the Southern areas in Saint-Petersburg. All objects in the series are near to the meridian of the observatory's latitude.Â In the XIX and early XX century, this Meridian served as the reference point of longitude on the geographical maps of the Russian Empire. Petersburg itself is the quintessence of cultural, public and economic life of the country, and a look at it in the context of historic Meridian gives the project a certain symbolism.

It's the series of pictures taken along the direct route from North to South through Saint-Petersburg. There are areas of three hundred years of Russian history expressed in architecture and people's daily life.
The Pulkovo Observatory was choosen as the reference point for the project. The meridian of the same name that crosses it devides the city into two approximately equal parts.
