Summary
A study of the Il Duomo during a winter sunset from it's roof.
Project Text
I had only one night in Milan and I knew exactly what I was going to do. Visit the Il Duomo. I had only been in Milan once before, for a few hours during a train transfer, and my only experience was discovering that McDonald's sold beer; which for a 20 yr old was a major discovery. Now older than double that age in years, I knew McDonalds would not be the zenith of this stop in Milan. I was arriving in the afternoon so I knew that after checking in I would have to go directly to the Cathedral. Unfortunately the inside was closed when I arrived around 5 pm, but I checked and the roof was still open. I decided to head to the roof and get a view of the city and capture what I could in my way of viewing things. I was planning this and had my Canon 60D ready to go. I really wanted to capture the structure using the natural light, especially since it was sunset time. I also focused on composition of the structure because it is so overwhelming with detail, I didn't want the series to get lost on basic subject matter and framing. In this series I tired to execute the genres of Abstract, Cityscape, Street, Still Life, and Architecture with a Fine Art Twist. Though the inside was closed, there is always next time, and it forced me to use my imagination to capture what I could on the rooftop; which turned out to be everything I needed.
