Jul 28, 2021
Namulindwa Harriet a mother of seven and a victim of gender based violence making charcoal briquettes at her stall in Kalerwe village, Kampala, Uganda. Harriet is a beneficiary of the Kasasiro Zaabu project that seeks to improve the quality of life of women living in urban slums, and especially those that have suffered gender based violence. Unlike other women that give up and accept the status quo, Harriet goes against all odds to start a charcoal briquette business that generates income to support her family and also help the community preserve the environment by providing a ready source of clean energy for cooking.
