Surfer series 2010-2016
The way they embrace what Cleveland has to offer, is fascinating. The near freezing lake as a playground while most of us hibernate for months. Their passion and commitment despite harsh weather is inspiring. These photographs are intended to capture this honorable local surf community bonding with each other and nature. These images lead me to appreciate the city more. When a storm is brewing, it's freezing cold out, and I am inside; they are waking up, getting into the water, and surfing the shores of Lake Erie. Utilizing what we have here despite the adverse conditions.
Surf Juxtaposed started in Cleveland on Lake Erie. During the winter months I kept seeing people out on the water and began photographing them in 2002. I returned in 2009 and began to spend more time with them. I was able to get to know them, stood out there with them as they surfed. We went to San Diego and so became the juxtaposition. West Coast(CA) / North Coast(OH).
