First Prize - Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize

I am honored to have received the first prize of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize, organized by the National Portrait Gallery of London, and selected from more than five thousand participating photographs.

It will be exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, among the other 50 finalist, until 8 February 2018.

This portrait of Amadou Sumaila, a Malian refugee who fled his country in 2015 due to the war, was taken aboard a rescue vessel, minutes after his rescue in the Mediterranean Sea, 20 nautical miles off the coast of Libya. It is part of the project 'Passengers', consisting of 118 portraits, with which I seek to name the tragedy that these days are living on the borders of Europe.
