THE BALLADS OF THE CORAL

In August 1917, during the First World War, the ship steamer Llanishen is
torpedoed by a German war submarine near the coasts of Cadaqués and
ended up sinking in the cove of Es Caials. A family of Greek sailors, the
Kontos, arrives to Alt Empordà region to work on scrapping the shipwreck.
This family will end up settling in Cadaqués, devoting the rest of their life to
explore the depths of the sea, working as divers and coral fishermen.

Taking this real chronicle as a starting point,“The ballads of the Coral” is
a photographic essay halfway between the documentary and the imagined
territory. The work raises an approach to people, fauna and flora linked to a
world as unknown to the author as that of the depths of the sea, in a scenario
of a telluric force as unique as is Cap de Creus.
