Betina Garcia is a visual journalist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Driven by curiosity, she’s on a quest to know people and what motivates them – she wants to expand people’s perspective on life. Her stories have been published in various media outlets including The New York Times, Stern, The Obama Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Refinery29, The Player's Tribune, Danmarks Radio, Berlingske, Jyllandsposten and BT. She has attended the New York Portfolio Review and the Eddie Adams Workshop and has been honoured in the POYi (Gold in Community Awareness Award in 2023), The CPOY competition in the feature, documentary, and portfolio category. She graduated from the Danish School and Media’s photojournalism program in June 2016 and did an exchange at Western Kentucky University in the fall of 2015. She interned as a staff photographer at Scanpix, the biggest picture agency in Scandinavia, for a year and a half. For Garcia, it’s important to tell the story using the right medium, whether it is using video or stills. She feels that it’s her responsibility as a photojournalist to inform and start dialogues that foster a better understanding of each other in a divided world
