RIP Melvin Van Pebble, we have lost a great man, actor, filmmaker, playwright, novelist, musician, composer and godfather of black cinema … I ‘ll never forget you singing ‘La Marseillaise’ in my car after picking you up from the airport in Chicago to attend and be honored at CIMFEST with the Badass award. From Hara-Kiri to Burnt Sugar, a true visionary . The New York Times called Van Peebles “the first Black man in show business to beat the white man at his own game”. Au revoir Melvin, we’ll miss you in NY.
