K M Asad (1983) grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and finished my graduation in photojournalism in 2008. Covering the aftermath of Cyclone Sidr (2007) has deeply affected me. Shortly after the publication of my photographs, humanitarian aid arrived in the remote and cut-off communities I worked in, which strengthened my desire to pursue a life as a documentary photographer and photojournalist.

Working mostly independently, I am determined to draw attention to contemporary social and environmental challenges and humanitarian crises. My major works include a long-term documentation on the flight of the Rohingya people from Myanmar to Bangladesh and their continuing struggle for existence, and a long-term project on the effects of climate change on coastal communities in Bangladesh. I also captured the consequences of man-made and natural disasters such as the collapse of the Bangladeshi garment factory Rana Plaza (2013) and the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Nepal (2015).

I have received numerous honors and awards including the World Press Photo Award, UNICEF Picture Of the Year, Picture of the Year International (POYI), and the Lucie Award (IPA). Some of my photographs are part of the permanent collection of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (KMOPA) in Japan.

My works have been published among others in National Geographic, the New York Times, CNN, BBC, The Guardian, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Bloomberg, and Science Magazine.
