The Ocean and Us
I live in Hermanus on the Whale Coast of the Western Cape. Life in this town is defined by it's connection to the ocean. Our shore consists of wild rocky cliffs dropping straight down into the ocean, interrupted by pristine beaches. Every year gentle giants from Antarctica visit us from June to November: Southern right whales. They are a mystical, peaceful and playful presence in the bay.
The ocean creates economic opportunity through tourism and aqua farming. It also provides us breathing space to find ourselves through play and the simplicity of long walks.
