Meike Hanne Seele is an independent photographer professional.
Meike grew up at the coastal part of Germany and now lives and works in Lucerne/Switzerland. She started as self-taught photographer and gained most of her experience through workshops.
In 2011 Meike obtained a degree in photojournalism/press photography at the Swiss school for journalism (MAZ, Die Schweizer Journalistenschule, Lucerne/Switzerland).For a short period of time she worked as freelance photojournalist. Her editorial work has been published in several magazines and newspapers (e.g. NZZ am Sonntag, Sonntagszeitung, Dagblad von het Noorden, Surprise, Weltwoche, Die Zeit, Berner Zeitung, Aargauer Zeitung, Blick).
Recently Meike focuses on personal projects, which are located between documentary and art photography. She follows a strong interest in picturing her very local neighbourhood through concentrating on the silent sides of life and picturing the overseen. In her pictures she shows daily-life episodes by using a subtle and dreamlike visual language. Meike is an avowed colour junkie and photographically addicted to bizarre moments in life. She is fascinated by the combination of texts and photographs and deeply enjoys her photos to interact with one another and create a poem-like melody in the viewer’s mind. Diptychs and triptychs are reliable parts in her photo stories.Someof her work (e.g. funky partners) shows her lifelong approach to map her chaotic environment and give it structure through photography.
Momentariness, fragility, darkness and finiteness are the subjects Meike is currently working on.
