Gevgelia, Macedonia - August 8, 2015: A young refugee is looking through a window of train station in Gevgelia, Macedonia, while waiting to board the train headed towards Serbia. Each day about 1500 refugees cross from Greece to Macedonian town of Gevgelia with intention to reach any of European Union countries and to receive status of asylum seekers there.

Most of the refugees who crossed Serbia try to continue their route towards Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and other countries of the European Union.

Khalil, a Kurd from Syria has lost his family somewhere inside that colossal group of people. In absolute desperation, he had no choice but to lay down the field with his baby, shouting the name of his loved ones as he awaits for them.
Brežice, Slovenia - October 26, 2015: Refugees are marching towards refugee registration center in Brezice during the night. The nights are getting colder, with air temperature being as low as five degrees Celsius. The Slovenian police provides an escort for the refugees on their eight kilometer march from Rigonce, where they enter Slovenia.

Reportage bears title "The Balkan Nights", as it covers the plight of refugees on their route from Macedonian border through Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, only to escape death and poverty in their homelands. This essay documents their struggle to reach safety and receive an asylum status in one of the countries of the European Union. This reportage documents the harsh conditions refugees are facing on their way through the Balkan route, as the Balkan countries were under prepared for a crisis of this dimensions, often resembling a scenery from the Biblical exodus. More than a million of refugees fled their homes in 2015.
