Summary
Between the Frames III

BERLIN: Please join Maryam Majid and myself for an evening all about photojournalism, with friends, colleagues, and neighbours, hosted by Axel Schmidt. Maryam and I will give some insight into our work and show some partly unpublished pictures.
Between the Frames is a space to talk about pictures with friends. And to celebrate photojournalism in particular, but not just that of news agency and news paper photographers. Bring your friends and family. We can easily accommodate 80 people. It’s a potluck: Please bring drinks or snacks.

Maryam Majd is Iran's first female sports photographer, documenting women's struggles in sports across the Middle East. Her work challenges the Iranian government's view that women and sports do not belong together, which led to her imprisonment. After spending time in prison because of her work, Maryam now lives in Berlin. Her photographs of the Iranian women's national football team captured their journey through political barriers. This included their return after being dropped from FIFA rankings due to enforced absence from international competition.

The Fearless Sisters of the Dragon Order - Nadja Wohlleben documents the Kung Fu Nuns of the 800-year-old Drukpa Buddhist lineage, who combine martial arts, meditation, and activism across the Himalayas. Through her lens, she captures these women who teach self-defence, promote environmental awareness, and fight for gender equality. Nadja began this project in 2019 in Nepal and Northern India with support of the VG Bild-Kunst Grant. A martial artist herself, she focuses on stories of resilience among women across diverse cultures and is a member of Women Photograph.
