Rory Hejtmanek

Rory Hejtmanek is a fine-art documentary photographer living in Georgetown, Texas. He holds a degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, a city he called home for 10 years before relocating to build a "family compound” with his large extended, blended family. As a transgender man who spent his 20s in queer co-ops in the Bay Area and is now, in his 30s, living in a rural community, Rory’s photographs reflect a continual exploration of gender and belonging, as well as a fascination with family, both given and chosen. He documented his given family through the grieving of many deaths within a few years of one another, and photographing the family’s recovery and reformation in the wake of these deaths grew into a 10-year cycle of work.
