Ruth was borned and raised in Mexico city where she studied Communications. She moved to New York city to pursue her studies in Photography. She did an internship in the cultural research department at Magnum photos. She graduated from the program in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at the International Center of Photography in 2012 in New York. She has focused her work in themes of immigration, identity and race. Her distinctive approach earned her a fellowship at the prestigious Magnum´s Foundation to continue her long term project "Safe Heaven" about Mexican immigration to USA. She was nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass, shortlisted in the Lucie Foundation Emerging Scholarship, the Athens Foto Festival and earned Fotovisura Spotlight Grant Honorable Mention. Her work has been exhibited in the Mexico,New York, France, Spain and China.She has published her work at New York Times Lens blog,Burn Magazine,Ojo de Pez, Lat Photo Magazine, Univision, among others. She was featured in the article ““9 Mexican Photographers you need to follow” in TIME magazine. Ruth is currently based between Berlin and Mexico city.
