On May 19, 2024, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash in the northwest of Iran. In the immediate aftermath, scenes of mourning spread across Tehran and other cities. Public spaces were covered in black, portraits of the late president appeared on buildings and billboards, and various signs of collective grief were visible throughout the city.

In the following days, funeral processions and public memorials took place in the streets of Tehran. Large crowds participated in the official funeral ceremony, which passed through central parts of the city. Alongside this, banners, black flags, and religious symbols were set up by supporters and segments of the public in neighborhoods, public squares, and near state institutions.

This photo series documents the visual aftermath of the crash in Tehran, including the street funeral procession, mourning banners, gatherings of citizens, and the overall presence of grief in public life. The images aim to present a factual account of how the city responded to the event.
