Zoe Perry-Wood is an artist and photographer based in Lexington, MA. She holds a BFA in photography from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and earned her M.Ed in Social Justice Education from UMass Amherst and a CAGS in School Psychology from UMass Boston. She is a recipient of both national and international awards for her portrait photography.
Zoe Perry-Wood’s work is represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as numerous private collections. Shown internationally, her work was recently exhibited at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston in the “(un)expected families” exhibition, at the Newport Art Museum in “Forever Young: Representations of Childhood and Adolescence,” as well as exhibited at National Portrait Gallery in London, Soho Photo in New York, Photo Center NW, WA, Gallery Kayafas, MassArt, Clark University, Harvard University, The Turchin Center for the Arts in Boone N.C., The Fitchburg Art Museum, Photographic Resources Center, The Griffin Museum, and in a two-person show at the Essex Gallery at CCBC in Baltimore. She was awarded a Director’s Choice Award at Review Santa Fe 2018 where she presented a public lecture at Review Santa Fe in October 2018. Additional public lectures have included, The MFA Boston, Newport Art Museum, Documentary Matters, Harvard Medical School, The Griffin Museum and Buckingham Brown & Nichols School. Her works are available through Gallery Kayafas, Boston for sales, exhibitions and public lectures and presentations.
Zoe is active as the Vice-Chair on the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Alumni Leadership Council and participates yearly in the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Auction. Zoe is past chair of the Lexington Council for the Arts and is on the organizing committee of Lexington Open Studios.
Zoe has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in social justice education, lead trainings in diversity issues and directed a bullying prevention program. Currently Zoe works as a school psychologist, providing consultation and evaluations for several school districts in the Boston area. Zoe and her wife Lisa raised several children not originally theirs.
In one focus of her work, Zoe investigates expressions of identity and documents mainstream groups as well as non-conforming subcultures. Her recent series include a five-year project documenting Boston Alliance of Gay Lesbian Transgender Youth (BAGLY) and making portraits of youth at their Prom and other events; and a long term project documenting gay culture in Provincetown and making portraits of drag queens and other gender flexible people.
