Alberto Mesirca was born in Rome (Italy) in 1964. He grew up in Rome and
after obtaining a Master in Telecommunications Engineering he lived and
worked in different countries (Hong Kong, Argentina, USA, Belgium,
United Arab Emirates, Rwanda). He currently lives in Kigali, Rwanda.
He attended the first year of the Photography Associate Degree at Santa
Monica College were he was influenced by Ms. Dastin’s approach on the
sociological aspects of Photography, by Mr. Anderson's attitude on how to
approach lighting and by Mr. Moulton's philosophy on shooting.
He approaches his subjects in two ways.
One is from a geometrical and rational perspective, possibly trying to find the
abstract in reality and attempting to rationalize it. The other is from a
sociological perspective, investigating the social, economical and historical
contexts of also minimal aspects of reality that, like in a fractal, represents the
whole. He believes that these processes inevitably lead to a more intimate
knowledge and appreciation of the reality before him.
He does not like to overly modify his photos in post processing as for him the
representation of reality as actually seen is very important, and also because
during the film era he shot with slides, where the scope of modification was
minimal.
A common trait of his photography is the intent of revealing hidden aspects of
objects or situations. Either with an unconventional or an investigative
approach in dealing with the reality
His artwork has been shown in exhibitions in Rome, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Paris,
Los Angeles, Kigali.
His photos have been published in various paper and on-line magazines like
Aint Bad, Silvershotz, L’Oeil de la Photographie, Fotoforum Magazine,
Artillery Magazine, “Portrait of Humanity” by Hoxton Mini Press.
Among others, he received Honorable Mentions at IPA Foundations
International Photography Awards 2016 and 2020 and at PX3 Prix de la
Photographie 2016. He was finalist at Focus Photo LA Winter 2018, at
Hahnemühle Fine Art Competition and at “Portrait of Humanity 2019 by 1845
Media and Magnum Photo. He wat third placed in Fotoforum “People” photo
contest.
He had two solo exhibitions in Milan and Brussels in 2020 whose theme was
Workers.
