As an immigrant and a former U.S. service member, I often reflect on how different my life might have been had I remained in my home country (Colombia). My experiences in the military and as an immigrant compel me to explore how people move between worlds, navigating the complex relationships between those who stayed in their home countries, those who migrated to the U.S., and those who travel back and forth. The intersections of life, culture, identity, and nature shape the relationship between my work and the people, places, and objects within it. My images seek these interactions, focusing on how individuals and communities adapt, redefine themselves, and find balance amid shifting landscapes. Much of my work weaves in and out of surfing, capturing the way of life in the communities I document—offering a deeper look at the connections between people and the ocean.
The sample images in this portfolio come from several projects I’ve made over the past five years. I frequently revisit some of these locations and maintain relationships with the communities.
