About

Vicky Azcoitia is an independent documentary photographer raised in the Sierra Morena mountains in southwest Spain. Growing up surrounded by nature she developed a strong desire to document the beauty in life, both in nature and people. Although a graphic designer by trade (Istituto Europeo di Design, Madrid), photography always remained her best tool to communicate and document, leading her to make a career change. What was planned as two short years of documentary photography study and practice in New York City (International Center of Photography), has now lasted more than a decade and includes a family with two young children. Along the way she earned a Master in Professional Studies in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts and was the recipient of the Paula Rhodes Award, and Julia Margaret Cameron Honorable Mention in Documentary. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally. Vicky has developed numerous long term projects, created large format alternative photography process artworks, worked on visual narrative editing, and is a fine art digital printer. She strives to address the importance of our natural environment and our place within it, as well as to foster its respect and renewal in her multidisciplinary work. She and her family now split their time between New York City and the Catskill Mountains.
