Valérie Baeriswyl is a freelance photojournalist of Swiss origin, trained at EMI-CFD in Paris.
A freelancer for AFP since 2016, her photos are published in various media around the world: Le Monde, GEO, New York Times, The Guardian, Pèlerin Magazine, Le Temps, etc.
In 2012, she received the Grand Prix Paris-Match du photoreportage with her work “Convertie”. In 2015, she moved to Haiti and joined Kolektif 2D, which publishes her reports in Fotopaklè magazine. In 2021, Valérie is co-winner of the Prix Chaffanjon with Laura Louis and Philicien Casimir with the report Tate Tifi.


Valérie specializes in reportage and documentary work. “Bonne vie à deux”, her long-term work on Haitian marriages, was awarded the "Yannis Behrakis Photojournalism Grants" by Reuters in 2019, this reportage was the subject of an exhibition in January 2021 at the Institut Français d'Haïti and her book was published in March 2021, the French magazine "6 mois" published it in March 2020 and The Guardian in September 2020. Bonne vie à deux was also exhibited at the Visa pour l'Image festival in Perpignan from August 28 to September 12, 2021. The “Cortona on the Move” festival (Italy) included it in its “Yes, I do” exhibition in 2022 and has since also been exhibited at the Ferme des Tilleuls(Switzerland) in 2024 and at the Jenisch House, Hamburg (Germany) 2025.A portraitist at heart, Valérie discovered photography at a very early age and adopted it as a way of telling stories and meeting others. She loves to photograph human societies, to relate the reality of a community. When she is in Switzerland during the summer, she photographs weddings and families.
