Irene Barajas

Irene Barajas (Mexico City, 1974) has been a photographer for more than 20 years, with an eye toward documentary as well as experimentation with different printing materials, such as printing on stretchable latex, polaroid transfer and liquid emulsion on various surfaces. Although she began her career with analog film and the dark room she now does all her commercial and institutional photography work in different digital formats. She has exhibited her personal work in the US, Colombia and Mexico. With a master's degree in Art History and with recent interest in diving, she is seeking to explore and execute underwater visual projects.
 As a photographer documenting and reproducing works of art, Irene worked for 3 years producing a visual digital archive of more than 900 pieces of the collection at the University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC). Some of her work reproducing work of art has been featured in publications such as La Era de la Discrepancia Arte y cultura visual en México 1968-1997 (2008)  and  Artistas al Rescate (2014). The last published project took her to travel throughout Mexico during 2019, portraying master craftswomen and men for the book Grandes Maestros Artesanos 20 años from Fomento Cultural Banamex. Irene has also been a photography teacher for more than 10 years at various Universities in Mexico City and she has also given photography workshops in other parts of the country.
In 2000 Irene founded her own studio called Densidad Neutra, which is dedicated to the production of photography and audiovisual projects mainly for commercial and institutional clients and more recently focusing on social projects with NGOs. With Densidad Neutra Irene has done work for clients not only in Mexico but also from the US, Spain, India, Hungary, Great Britain and the Netherlands.
In Densidad neutra, Irene is the director of still photography and head producer for the audio visual projects.
