Within the INL’s sprawling 14,000-square-kilometre premises, you’ll discover the world’s most advanced live nuclear test reactor, nestled 12 meters underground. The demand for access to this reactor stretches for years into the future, as private companies, governments and universities “pay to play”. These customers use the test reactor to fine-tune the fuel and structural designs for their own small and micro modular nuclear reactors, intended to produce 300 megawatts and 5 megawatts respectively with zero emissions.
As climate change becomes more critical, it is essential to move away from burning fossil fuels and nuclear energy is an option.
