“Same song still playing in the car, on my i-pod, from the night before, the life around me and in me was never the same.”
Beth Chucker is interested in private moments that shape the dynamics of relationships. How we cope with the shifts given to us in life and reshape them to adapt to our new future. The imagery not only documents relationships reformed by loss, but also the visual erosion of memories. Through various modes of image making Beth is investigating her own identity and the characteristics she has gained from her parents who at one time she was afraid of becoming.
These fragmented images, symbols of her life, coming together as a whole, to connect her exterior presence with her inner self. Extracting from these images, she is looking at the places where one collects the strength to smile. Beth uses all forms of the photographic process to create her imagery and video to articulate her analysis in her narrative.
Beth is from the Washington, DC area. She received a BFA from The Corcoran College of Art and Design, then in 2000, Beth moved to Los Angeles, where she then achieved her second BFA from Art Center College of Design with Honors, in 2009 Beth received her MFA from Bard’s ICP/Bard MFA program.
Beth moved to Montclair in 2017 from Los Angeles, with her husband, Jim and their now 8.5 year old twins Eleanor and Jack.
