About
Crystelle Colucci is a photo based artist from Long Island and is now currently living in Manhattan with her pit bull, Balboa. Working through the mediums of photography, collage, video and painting; her work revolves around themes of relationships, family and intimacy. Her most current project focuses on the complicated relationship she shares with her mother. When she discovered photography she found a way of telling the stories she found hard to communicate. She now continues to do so by experimenting with fabrics and clothing, attempting to turn these seemingly impersonal objects into a way of communicating her story of absence and reconnection with her mother. The presence of a tactile piece of clothing speaks to the intimacy represented in the images transferred imperfectly; which represents the relationship she shares with her mother. As a senior at The School of Visual Arts, her work is very influenced by poetry, runway and fashion magazines. She has previously worked for David LaChapelle Studios and now currently works for Hearst Magazines as a studio assistant. She also teaches photography to 7th graders at the Renaissance School of The Arts in East Harlem. In her free time she enjoys browsing flea markets, seeing art shows in museums and galleries and volunteering for an animal rescue called Ruff House Rescue.
