Pimpineros
In the Venezuelan Guajira, near the border with Colombia, there is a village called Los Filuos.
The classrooms of the local school of Los Filuos wake up every day practically empty of pupils, at least 50% of them have already become what is popularly known as "pimpineros".
The "pimpineros" are smugglers who carry for hours under the sun, gasoline-filled containers for the purpose of selling them to citizens and travelers in Colombian territory, where the fuel is almost 70 times more expensive.
For thousands of people, this business is the only livelihood, given the crisis that the country suffers in its primary sectors such as livestock and agriculture.
This work was awarded the Rey de España Award for Journalism.
