Federico Epifanio is born in Trieste, Italy, in 1992. He spent his childhood and adolescence in his native town, which was once a very active and multicultural port city in the mediterranean, on the border between Italy and former Yugoslavia.
At the age of 18 he started travelling around Europe, especially in the Balkans, developing a strong interest in photojournalism. It was in Bosnia-Hercegovina that he was first stricken by the resilience of entangled multicultural realities, who resisted attempts of geopolitical redesign of complex regional areas, by means of ethnic and sectarian violence.Â
In 2011, he moved to Milan to study journalism and visual studies at the local university, earning his degree in Humanities and Media in 2015. In the meantime he has worked several years as a photo assistant and light technician developing his technical skills.Â
His personal research focuses on long-term multimedia projects regarding migrations and the resilience of communities that live close to borders. He also developed an interest in geopolitics of the Balkans, Caucasus, Middle East and the Mediterranean region.
