Hi, my name is Eric Chang.  I'm proudly from New York City, where I grew up in the 1970s.  The city was a tough place then and I learned much during those troubled times, especially the value of common sense and how to get along with people different from me.  I currently live in Washington, DC, which I love very much.

My interest in photography started in high school, while a student at The High School of Art and Design. But, It wasn't until a trip to Nepal many years later that my love of photography took off.  Initially, I wanted to take photos of Mount Everest, but discovered that I enjoyed taking photos of the Nepalese people more.  I learned that my photography is motivated by curiosity about the world we live in and having compassion for others, understanding that we’re all in this together.

Besides photography, I am particularly interested in Buddhism, finding that many of its teachings resonate with me.  The practices on mindfulness are particularly well-suited to trying to capture a moment with the camera.  I am also the Development and Outreach Director for Focus on the Story, a group whose mission is to support and encourage visual storytellers of diverse backgrounds in bringing attention to critical issues, bridging cultural gaps and sparking social change.
