BCN Misfits is an epic portrait of different lives affected by the reinvention of Barcelona city from just before the Olympic Games in 1992 up until 2005. It is a revised and updated edition of different series of images, reflecting realities that existed during the Olympic Games, the ‘Forum of Cultures’, the re-modelling of the seafront, and the transformation of the old quarter of town.

These images have been shown in different formats, but this latest edition, selected and produced for a recent exhibition in Barcelona by Territorios Libres, is my personal favourite because it reflects a very different reality of communities that were hidden away in order to make Barcelona an attractive tourist destination. It is my own personal vision of the city as it transformed before my eyes.

This is a  selection of images of the reedition, picked from four different stories: 'Wad-Ras' women’s prison during and after the Olympic Games. A displaced community of shack-dwellers allowing the remodelling of the seafront from 1988 until 1998. Sex workers in different living and working in various conditions in and around the city and the decadent bars and thrift shop lifestyle that was characteristic of the old town before it was refurbished for tourism and gentrification.
