Talia Herman

Talia Herman is a documentary photographer and photojournalist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Talia earned her B.A. in “social and historical inquiry”  from Eugene Lang College, while she double majored in photography at Parsons School of Design. She went on to complete the International Center of Photography’s  Documentary and Photojournalism program in New York City. 

Her clients include: The New Yorker, California Sunday Magazine, The New York Times, NPR, Airbnb, Rolling Stone, Politico, Dove, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Atlantic, TIME, Wall Street Journal, The Fader, and many others.

Talia is on the teaching faculty at the ICP.

Statement

Raised by an Israeli father and an American mother in a counterculture stronghold in rural Northern California, her early influences include outlaw marijuana culture,  “hippie” ideologies, her Waldorf education, trauma, queerness, French and drag queen aunties, and so many left wing boho Israeli and American Jews. Her years of practice code-switching between rural and urban, blue and white collar cultural spaces continues to inform her work today. Her widely published project ”West County” explores post-adolescent relations in the Northern California community where she grew up. In her most recent work, Talia documents raising a family alongside the threat of a rapidly shifting climate.
