Born in Guelatao de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico, Jorge Santiago is a documentary photographer currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was awarded a Heinz Endowments Creative Development Award in 2023, and is currently a member of the renowned Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte in Mexico (National System of Art Creators). His work has been exhibited at the Latin America Foto Festival at the Bronx Documentary Center; Photoville, PhotoEspaña; La Bienal de la Habana; La Biennale di Venezia; El Centro Fotográfico Alvarez Bravo; and the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City. Jorge's photographs have appeared in numerous publications including Harper's Magazine, The New York Times Lens Blog, PDN Photo of the Day, Deadspin, Cuartoscuro, and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. For the past year, he has been leading online workshops for young Mexican storytellers sharing tools and strategies to find an economic and artistic life balance. Jorge has traveled extensively in Mexico, the United States, and China, and is currently at work on a photo documentary about Oaxacan basketball in Los Angeles.
