Summary
Animal abandonment is a global issue, normalized and underestimated, challenging both animal well-being and those ensuring their safety. Spain, historically linked to animals, has seen a rise in abandonment, becoming a European leader in this issue. The Affinity Foundation reports around 300,000 animals are rescued annually, with Barcelona being a hotspot due to its density. Common reasons include job changes, relocations, and financial issues. "Stranded Yowls" aims to raise awareness, promote responsible pet ownership, and improve animal lives in the region.
Animal abandonment is a global problem, normalized and often underestimated challenge both for their well-being and for those who look after their safety and rights.
Spain, a country that is historically linked to animals, has seen a constant increase in the incidence of this issue in recent times, establishing itself as a European leader in this area.

According to figures revealed by the Affinity Foundation’s Adoption Abandonment Study, around 300,000 animals are rescued annually. Barcelona, due to its density, is one of the cities where this practice is practiced the most. The reasons mentioned by professionals are usually a change of job or address, a bad financial forecast. In general terms, a lack of civic awareness.

Every year, tens of thousands of animals are left in centers, or simply on their own fate.
This is due to a lack of awareness of what it entails to live with one, divergences between the lifestyle you expect to have with your company and the one you end up getting.
The situation, thus, becomes a burden for shelters and rescue organizations and the responsible authorities, because supplying such a quantity of animals is a difficult task.

"Stranded yowls" aims to raise awareness and generate the necessary knowledge around the subject to create effective strategies in the fight against this practice, while encouraging ownership
responsible for pets and, ultimately, improving the lives of animals in the territory.
