My Hair, My Pride
At an early stage, I started entangling and braiding my little sisters’ hair afro hair. For me, it was a way of not just connecting with her but a broader community of women who unapologetically embrace their natural hair. There is something about the texture of the African hair and the twist and turns of the hair that tells a narrative of heritage, resilience and beauty. This isn’t about only the hair itself but reclaiming narratives and creating a sense of belonging. Just like the design of an afro comb which has a clung fist, the natural hair transcends just mere beauty but it embodies a sense of strength , identity and celebration of our unique heritage.
