NEPAL. Everest Region, Lukla. May 20th, 2012. Lukla airport is situated in Lukla, a town in the Khumbu area of the Solukhumbu district in northeastern Nepal. At an altitude of 2,800m, it is a popular starting point among trekkers for their journey through the Everest region.

Namche Bazaar is the largest village in the Solukhumbu region and known as the main trading center for the Khumbu region. It rests at an altitude of 3,440m and is one of the main lodging villages for the intrepid trekkers and professional mountaineers.
NEPAL. Everest Region, Gokyo Lakes. May 8th, 2012. Located in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal, the Gokyo Lakes are considered to be sacred by both Hindus and Buddists. Resting at an altitude of 5,000 meters, it is the world’s highest freshwater lake system comprised of six main lakes nested deep in the Himalayas.

These shaggy, large, high-altitude cows, most often associated with the Himalayas, are an indispensable part of the Nepalese daily life in the mountains. The local mountain villagers commonly use yaks as a way to transport goods for sale. Yaks are often seen towing food and large packs for tourists and mountaineers alike.
NEPAL, Everest Region, Everest Base Camp and Khumbu Glacier. May 12th, 2012. At 4,900 meters at its source, the Khumbu Glacier is the world's highest glacier located at the start of the route to scaling Mount Everest. Just beyond the Khumbu Glacier, between Camps I and II lies the Khumbu IceFall where the avalanche occurred on April 18th, 2014, taking the lives of 16 sherpa guides in what many have described to be modern mountaineering's deadliest single tragedy.
