Though born in Boston in 2002, Kayleen Vicente spent her childhood and early teenage years in the archipelago of Cabo Verdean, especially the island of Santiago.

At 15, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts where, through the Institute of Contemporary Art's educational programs, she discovered her passion for the visual arts. Photography served as a way to better understand her family and identity as well as a way to maintain a connection to her culture. First taking part in a digital photography class where her works were exhibited, she then started participating in Fast Forward, a filmmaking program.

This resulted To The Seas, her first short film. This documentary, through the stories and lives of three women, explores how generation, cultural, and economic factors ultimately shape their identities. Kayleen hopes to continue making films that explore the stories of women and the various aspects of Cabo Verdean reality.
