Dear Community, Happy Juneteenth! I hope all is good with you. This year I will be celebrating the Juneteenth holiday in Savannah, Georgia. If you plan on being in the area, I cordially invite you to stop by two fantastic events taking place on Saturday, June 19th. The Savannah African Art Museum will be presenting their Juneteenth celebration from Noon to 4 pm. The event is FREE and includes African food tastings, cultural storytelling, DJ's and community empowerment information. I will be a guest speaker during the program and will talk about the Rest With Honor initiative to commemorate, rename, and protect Savannah's African Negro Burial Ground. The location is Savannah African Art Museum 201 E 37th St, Savannah, GA 31401 (912) 721-7745. I will be hosting a Rest With Honor light vigil in Calhoun Square 8 - 9:30 pm. The vigil is intended to acknowledge and honor the ancestors buried in and around Savannah's African Negro Burial Ground. LED glow sticks and face masks will be made available to participants.
