Instructor: Lauri Lyons Date Start: Tuesday, November 10, 2020 In this course students will examine how media arts has been used to portray and influence American social justice movements, issues around cultural diversity, and economics of the media industry. Through discussion and presentations by guest speakers, the class will explore protest narratives, including Black Lives Matter, the Vietnam War protests, and the Civil Rights movement. Discussions will also address and investigate issues around representation and cultural diversity in pop culture, as well as the media’s impact on our psychology through the promotion of stereotypes and the 24-hour news cycle.
