David Lombeida is an independent photographer and filmmaker who is currently based in Istanbul, documenting the effects of conflict, migration, and surviving trauma. His work has been featured in the Washington Post, The Guardian, Bloomberg, Reuters, CNN, and Al-Jazeera, among other publications.
David’s most recent work documents the rise of violence in the West Bank after the October 7th attacks from Hamas. In Colombia, he documented the national strike, which included a community engagement initiative. For example, as part of his work photographing survivors of police brutality during the demonstrations, David created a documentary about Nicolás Guerrero, a protester who was killed by police. With the support of Nicolás' friends and family, David screened the film for the community on the one-year anniversary of his passing.
An alumnus of the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2021, he won the South American Bloomberg Assignment Award, which helped jumpstart his career. David was a finalist in last year’s Arnold Newman Prize for his " Resistencia " portrait project. He was also selected as a judge for the 2023 Nikon Photo Contest in Tokyo.
Through his work exploring human connection, David hopes viewers will be confronted with and contemplate the issues that marginalize people. His goal is to create intimate stories that are relatable so the people he is privileged to photograph are seen as human beings above all else.
