in 2017, I took the California Zephyr from Roseville, CA to NYC. I brought 5 books with me, with the idea that the 5 day trip would be one of quiet, solitude and inner reflection. Instead, I found myself immersed in the lives of the other passengers who, for a myriad of reasons all found themselves on the same train going in the same direction.
We created a temporary community, shared our food, our stories and our lives in the small space of the train car. I decided to photograph the passengers I became close with to explore the temporary intimacy we all shared together those few days and nights.
