I am Abubaker Lubowa, started as a freelancer and now a staff photojournalist taking photos for Daily Monitor, Ennyanda (at times) all under Monitor Publication Limited, Freelance with Reuters, also at times The East African all owned by Nation Media Group. Also worked as a freelancer with Anadolu Agency based in Turkey.
I was born on 29th November, 1986 in Masaka Central Uganda. Went to Villa Road Primary school, Nyendo Mixed SS (Ordinary level) Sseke SS (Advanced level), and later joined Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) for a Bsc. Mass Communication where I specialized in Broadcasting and graduated in 2012.
Worked with Kamprint Uganda Limited as a printing machine operator.
Later joined ZAC film studios as a videographer (camera person) and studio photographer in 2011 -2012
In 2012 I joined Monitor Publication as a freelance photographer and later promoted to a staff photojournalist.
In 2013 I won the Uganda Press Photo Awards 2nd prize News category, 3rd prize Daily life and 3rd prize Portrait
In 2014 I won the Uganda Press Photo Awards 2nd prize News category
In 2016 I won the Uganda Press Photo Awards 1st prize story category
In 2017 I won the Uganda Press Photo Awards 2nd prize News category and 3rd prize Creative category.
I was chosen to give a key note address on Photojournalism and Press freedom in Uganda and UPPA (Uganda Press Photo Awards) book launch where the US Ambassador, Deborah Malac was the guest of honour.
