Yeh Bali (2022 - current) is a photo series that presents a portrayal of Bali, Indonesia that is sceptical of there being a single “authentic” Bali today. Challenging the outdated visual identity that has become synonymous with tourism propaganda, post-colonial vanity, and populist political rhetoric. Specifically photographed during the tourist low-season, the rainy season, to showcase Bali in its least performative. Highlighting the kaleidoscope of globalised peoples that coexisting on the island. Along with landscapes that reflect back to the viewer their understanding of what Balinese-ness is. Suggesting a relativist's take to the relationship between identity and place - fundamental to the photographer's claim, as a third-culture child of Indonesia, in calling Bali home.

Yeh Bali
