Luz Ladrón de Guevara is a young photographer based in Mexico City that from a very early age showed a special ability with the camera. In her images she manages to capture the exact moment when feelings emerge, when the face reveals the soul. This is her virtue: unite her gaze with that of the captured subject, trapped in her lens.
This photojournalist has published her photographic work in recognized media like Proceso Magazine, N+ Media and the Deutsche Welle. She has participated in many collective exhibitions in different museums and galleries all over Mexico City.
Winner of the National Photography Contest “One Year after the Earthquakes” with the photo “Rébsamen”, taken in Mexico’s capital after an earthquake destroyed an elementary school in 2017.
The central theme in Luz’s photographic work is, undoubtedly, women. The combatant woman, the one who takes to the streets to fight for her rights, the one who does not remain silent in the face of injustice. The one who fights the same from a platform downtown to demand the return alive of the thousands missing people in Mexico, as the one who resists from her home to prevent a gas pipeline from crossing her cornfield.
She has the sensibility to find the beauty in the simple scenes of the daily life. Incisive, talented and always willing to capture those images that will shake consciences.
_____
