In Peru, eight out of 10 households depend on women for domestic and care work, according to a survey by the Flora Tristán Center for Peruvian Women and the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP). Women spend 27.2 hours more per week on these tasks than men. The situation is even more demanding in rural areas of the country: there families use almost six hours a week more than in urban areas. OjoPúblico accompanied a group of women from the Andean communities of Apurímac, in the south of the country, to learn about their daily challenges at home and in the fields, and also how they have gone through the covid-19 pandemic.
