Catalina Martin-Chico is a french-spanish photographer, based in Paris. She studied at the ICP (International Center of Photography) in New York, and then started a long-love-relationship with the medium. Her first territory of exploration has been Yemen where she spent 10 years portraying the country and witnessing the growing violence. She won the the ICRC's Visa d'or in 2011 with her work on the arab spring and had an exhibition at the Visa pour l'Image international festival the same year. After years of photographing and publishing on Middle east, from Morocco to Iran through Yemen and Egypt, Catalina turns to Latin America. She won the Canon female photojournalist grant in 2017 for her project Colombia (Re)Birth, on the baby-boom among the FARC female fighter after the peace agreement. This Canon supported project has won the Worldpress 2019 Contemporary Issues Award and one of the photos was nominated for Photo of the Year the same year. And has been finalist for the 2020 Oskar Barnack Global Peace Award as well as the Alexia Foundation. And has been exhibited in Visa pour l’Image and many other festivals in the world. In 2021, Catalina won second place in the POY LATAM (Picture of the Year Latin America) award in the "Daily Life" category with her work on the Sarayaku indigenous people in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In 2022, she won the Culture Ministry & BNF grant to work on forest schools in France, as well as the CNAP grant (Centre National d’Arts plastiques) for her long-term project on Valparaisx. Her work has been regularly published in the French and international press. Among her clients are Le Monde, Geo, The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Figaro Magazine, L'Obs, VSD, Marie Claire, ELLE... She has given workshops, lectures and portfolio reviews all around Europe and South America. She is part of Panos photo Agency in London.
