We are used to see images of Caracas charged of violence and misery which show a city overcome by fear and poverty, YET there is another side of the Venezuela´s capital.
For three months a group of 40 teenage girls allowed me to accompany them in their practice sessions and live performances. I had the chance to be very close to them throughout the singing and dancing competition season that takes place among more than 15 private schools in Caracas, prior the Christmas festivities (i.e. "Gaitas").
There is an increasingly isolated part of our society that refuses to fall into despair, and it is committed to be present. In it reigns a fragile normality sustained in the resilience and the desire for a better future. In it, beauty and laughter are present, and the girls live that delicate moment of life where at times there is a girl and suddenly, with a change of clothes, a woman appears. In it, the kids are alright.
