TREASURE ROOMS (2013-2015)
In his artistic project, Mauro Fiorese uses his camera lens to focus on the places where the masterpieces of Italian art are preserved, revealing the magnificence of these repositories of culture, which are some of the most outstanding in the world. The storage galleries thus acquire the status of works of art in their own right, with all the dignity of large-format portraits. The photographs are made to mimic the loftiest painting, from the Renaissance onwards, through his choice of composition and his brushstrokes of light, but especially by being printed on cotton paper and placed under glass in wooden museum frames. These become an integral part of the work, introducing a solemn abstract style that does not dovetail with any particular historical period.Conceptually, the "painting" is chosen as a part for the whole "“ a quintessentially artistic device "“ while photography returns to its origins through culture, by moving back towards painting. What emerges is a unique series of non-traditional landscapes, forming an imaginary art gallery, which is itself formed by a sum of hidden works, including sculptures and antiquities.
