Mary Farmilant

Mary Farmilant, a Chicago-based artist artist, is best known for her work that examines abandoned objects and the spaces they occupy.  Her photographs create a visual record of life in the past before the spaces are demolished.  She seeks out the incidental and the unremarkable to photograph, the insignificant details adding shape and meaning to the story she is telling.  She works in photography, sound, video and installation. She received both a BA with honors and an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago.

Her artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Center for Fine Art Photography and many private collections.  Her photographs been exhibited internationally and have received many awards including: the Puffin Foundation Grant, the Illinois Arts Council Special Assistance Grant, the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award in Photography and the Community Arts Assistance Program Grant (CAAP).
