Rising above the streets of Malmö, the World Maritime University’s new building glistens in the sunlight, its jagged façade mirroring the undulating waves of the sea it represents. Designed by Terroir and Kim Utzon Arkitekter, this architectural marvel is a testament to the union of land and sea. The shimmering sheet aluminium, which clads the non-glazed surfaces, pays homage to the painted metal. Each panel folds and refracts the light, casting intricate shadows that dance along the building’s sharp edges. The transparency of glass contrasts with the solidity of metal, reflecting both the city’s urban landscape and the vastness of the ocean beyond. In this structure, the lines between land and sea, city and harbor, disappear into a shimmering horizon.
