When I first traveled to Albania, a lot of people thought I was crazy, they said things like “Oh you’re going to get kidnapped!” or “it’s run by the mafia, they’ll kill you!” But it was the words of one friend that particularly sat with me. “Why would you bother going to Albania?” he asked, “There’s nothing to see.”
That first trip completely changed the course of my life. I was so utterly blown away by how wrong my friend had been, how much beauty there was to take in, the incredible landscapes, the amazing food, the friendly people, and the fascinating, if often tragic, history. As a visual storyteller, it’s always been my intention to try to challenge people’s conceptions of place through my work. Through these photographs I’ve tried to shed the stereotypes, and to focus on the amazing natural and cultural heritage of this beautiful country in the midst of a still misunderstood part of Europe.
The prints are available in 3 sizes, produced by theprintspace in London, who offer worldwide shipping, and an end to end carbon neutral service. They’re printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte paper, one of my favourite stocks, which reproduces amazing colours, and has a lifespan of 60+ years. You can check out the full range of 10 prints here: http://www.stoeggerphotography.com/shop
